What I drank last night........Over some very tasty food at Flemings......

2000 EIEIO "I" Pinot Noir Willamette Valley

Here's a wine that doesn't get sold very far out of Oregon's wine country. Most of it gets sold right in the winemaker's Carleton Tasting Room and Wine Shop. The well made and perfectly smooth red has a delightful forward flavor of raspberry, strawberry and light tobacco. Not overly expensive, the wine is more than a bargain Pinot Noir, as its flavor is right out of Burgundy. If you live near Carleton, visit Old McDonald, well he's actually a young guy. www.onhisfarm.com

1998 Peter Lehmann Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon

Well made Australian Cabernets are very good with steak, especially when they get some bottle age on them. When most Aussie reds are young, the wines are over oaked. Once they lay down for a few years the wine become really good. With the 1998 vintage Lehmann produced a very clean, black cherry, cassis, carob and chocolaty wine, with a hint of hazelnut in the mid palate. The wine oozes with fruit and still has the deep brooding tannins that indicate that this is an age worthy contender that will likely only get better.

Cheers,

Andy Abramson
