2000 Ritratti Pinot Grigio Trentino

The Pinot Gris grape takes on so many forms and in the warmer climates of Italy, the finished product is usually softer and fruitier, missing the smokey aroma of its Alsatian cousins. Blessed with flavors of pears, honeydew, lemon and lime plus some hints of vanilla, this wine is a real winner.

1999 D'arenberg The Custodian Grenache McLaren Vale

Dark purple color and a nose of black licorice and allspice and anise, the wine is very young with brambly blackberry and raspberry flavors, some toasted walnuts and a meaty/grapey center. That telltale American oak is present on the nose as are some hints of chalk and soil are evident too. This wine needs three or four more years to reach its potential.

1994 Ch. Puech Haut Saint Drezery Coteaux du Languedoc

Possessing a dark red ruby color, this wine from the flat region below the hiss of Pic St. Loup reveals terroir like no other recent Languedoc red to pass my lips. Chalk and limestone plus the tell tale "garigue is most evident on the palate before the menthol and blueberry, black raspberry and cola fruit comes through. This wine is at the drink now stage and is very enjoyable.

Cheers,

Andy Abramson
