A friend and I went to Roy's last night for their wonderful Sushi. For my friend, who likes Sushi, but has never had Yamaguchi Sushi before, it was a bit of an adventure, as the freshest of the fresh fish, mixed with the Amy Yamaguchi sauces makes the dishes even more flavorful.
For wine we had two wines from the cellar.
2000 Serge Batard, Cotes de Grandlieu Muscadet, Loire Valley, France
This crystal clear, totally dry with just a hint of lemon flavor. The perennial favorite of mine has the crispy acidity to stand up to the salty flavors of the fish. It's such a fresh wine with the seafood you can almost taste the ocean in the glass.
2000 Wine Cask Santa Barbara Pinot Noir
Made by Jim Clendenen of Au Bon Climat for the Santa Barbara restaurant of the same name, this absolutely stunning wine made from Bien Nacido grown Pinot Noir fruit is loaded with strawberry, raspberry, cherry, a hint of mint, basil and coffee. As someone who has been drinking the special Wine Cask Pinot Noir's since the mid 90's, this was by far the most complete and early maturing release from the mind behind many great Central Coast Pinot's.
Based on my friends' smile at the end of dinner, I think I chose well....
