Over a late dinner @ Arterra these two wines were very enjoyable.

1997 Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva

A distant cousin of Grenache, this red wine is still youthful and vibrant. Loaded with a cornucopia of youthful fruit, the tarry, tobacco tinged wine has flavors of sour cherries, raspberry and coal. Nice and at peak.

1999 Chateau du Trignon Rasteau

I always like this big, gutsy blend of Mourvedre and Syrah. The wine, while still young, has shed its baby fat and is well past the ripe unctuous point in its apogee.Possessing a dark purple and ruby color, the wine has a bouquet of herbs de Provence, saddle leather and briary fruit. Plums, cherries and raspberry are the obvious scents, while on the palate layers of jam packed sweet fruit, and a reedy, almost herbal mid palate appears. I love this wine and see it aging for another 5-7 years.

Cheers,

Andy Abramson
