On Saturday, at lunch at the winery Sylvain, his love and inspiration, the lovely and charming Deseree and her mom and I went through a few white wines with a simple, but filling lunch. In addition to his white, the other three were found at the local Mas des Soporta's Maison au Vins, where the selection and prices can't be beat.

2000 Domaine d'Aupilhac Vin de Pays de Mont Baudile Blanc
Deep golden yellow color with a light honey bouquet. The wine is ripe with apricot and peach fruit and a hint of honeydew melon and finishes strong with tastes of cantaloupe and Crenshaw melons.

2002 Mas du Pountil Coteaux du Languedoc

A straight ahead white that is crisp and long on the palate with lemon lime, lemon zest and orange peel flavors. Actually it was very good with garden salad.

2003 Mas Brunet Coteaux du Languedoc Fut du Chene

Bigger and more extracted but perhaps too young as the oak is rather strong, hiding the high hill fruit. The problem with some wines from 2003 in the Languedoc is that the alcohol is so high, that wines end up too dry.

2001 Haut Terres de Comberousse Roucaillat

I somehow never fail to find this wine made by Sylain's friend Paul Reder. Without question one of the lesser known and under appreciated wines from the Languedoc is this white. The wine is still in the growth phase with oodles of bright fruit of orange blossoms, limes, limestone and pear.
